Well, hey, Astro Lover. Welcome back to another episode of Third House Gossip. It has been a minute. It has been a minute. You know, I had to move and that took a little bit more elbow grease and adjusting than I anticipated. So I had to take a little pause from the podcast, but I'm happy to be back talking Astro with you today.
We have a really full episode today. It's probably going to be a little bit longer than my usual Astro snacks, which is fun. Today, we're going to talk all about the upcoming eclipses, but also eclipses in general, so that we have a good base understanding of what they are and what we can expect from them.
But first, we're going to do a little mercury retrograde rehash. So, Mercury retrograde still isn't completely done. I know it's stationed direct, but it's still in its retrograde shadow period, and it will be until September 11th, which is probably the day you're listening to this. So it's a good time to still integrate and review those lessons and themes.
So we're going to spend a little bit of time doing that today. Then we're going to move into eclipse basics. I'm going to give you five major ways eclipses manifest and these come straight from my practice in astrology consultation. And I think this is really important because eclipses get a lot of press in pop astrology and they're usually thought of as really scary.
And I don't often see them show up as really scary in real life. So I want to give you five major ways they actually manifest in practice. And then I'm going to follow that up with five of my favorite eclipse strategies so that you can make the most of this eclipse season and be kind and compassionate to yourself. And we'll finish up with a few details about the Pisces and Libra eclipses that are coming up this month.
But before we get into all of that, I do have a few announcements to make. They're a little personal. They're a little exciting. So listen up. If you've been interested in working with me, I have some new opportunities.
The first thing I want to remind you of is that you can get your astrology questions answered for free here on the podcast. That's pretty awesome. So if you have a burning astrology question about astrology in general, or about your birth chart, there's a pretty good chance you can get it answered here on the podcast since we're still, you know, gaining momentum with the community component here.
So if you want to get your question answered, just head to astrologywithclaire. com slash gossip. That's astrologywithclaire. com slash gossip. And I did change the Virgo rules. Previously, I was like, yeah, if you have to give me your birth info, the question is too specific. Well, forget that y'all. We're just going to go specific if we want to.
So if you have a specific question about your birth chart, give me your birth information in the audio file. So that includes your birthday, birth time and birth place. And I will simply edit that part out of the final audio so that we don't broadcast it to the entire world. So again, if you have a question or you have an astrology story that you want to submit to the podcast, just head to astrologywithclaire. com slash gossip.
The next announcement I have is about how I am consulting. I'm actually completely changing the way I'm doing astrology consultations. Mercury retrograde really threw me for a loop. That's because it was directly hitting some of my most important planets, my Sun, my Mars. It was a head on attack. I don't usually talk about Mercury retrograde that way, but that's what it felt like.
Anywho. So Mercury retrograde really pushed me this this go round to get very honest with myself and here is the truth: I don't want to use astrology to tell the future. In my experience, all that does is create stress and fear instead of using astrology as what I think is the most important way is as a tool for self compassion.
What I really want to do in my practice is to use astrology as a presencing tool, not a futuring tool. And there's not a lot of models out there on how to do this. So I figured I would create an experiment and do it myself and figure this out. And I've named the experiment Inner Orbit, and you are officially invited to participate.
So the central idea of inner orbit is this. The planets are not out to get you. They are not just these external distant orbs forcing their agendas and plans upon you. They're not just making things happen to you. The planets manifest in you as parts of you. The planets are internal facets of your being that need nurturing and attention.
So, Inner Orbit, at this moment, is designed as a collection of single sessions, and I'm going to focus on one planet at a time, and I'm going to start with the Sun and end with the Outers. It's designed to open a direct line of communication with the celestial pieces of yourself. So it'll end up being a collection of tools that helps you relate and respond to your inner planets with wisdom and compassion.
And in hopes that that will also support your mental emotional well being along the way. So the tools that we might use in a session include attunements. An attunement is kind of like a visualization meditation where we will meet and greet a certain planet. We might journal. We might create prayers, ritual, and discuss practical actions that you can take to love and appreciate and get to know these inner planets within yourself.
So if you're interested in exploring this way of using astrology with me, head to astrologywithclaire. com slash inner orbit. That's astrologywithclaire. com slash innerorbit and you can start with a sun session.
I'm going to immerse us in one planet at a time for as long as it takes to really get into it. And so right now, all that's available is the sun. Then I'll progress to the moon and Mercury and so on and so on.
So the sun is the central organizing force of our solar system. And in inner orbit, it's the central organizing force of your inner planets. So it's a home base of sorts. So in a sun session, you're going to get to know your inner sun so that you can connect with its reliable, clarifying light anytime you want. So again, head to astrologywithclaire. com slash inner orbit to learn more about the research project and to sign up for a session.
I have one more announcement before we get started. And this one is super exciting and it's a blast from the past. I've decided to reopen my lunar cycle fitness program in the form of personal training. I'm going to take on five clients for three lunar cycles beginning October 2nd.
I have been creating and offering moon based movement programs for a really long time and I literally wrote the book on it. It's called Body Astrology. Many of you are here because of that book and I want to honor the work that I've done and I want to dip my toe back into that for fun and because I think the work is so important.
Lunar Cycle Fitness is a personal training program based on the moon's phases. Remember that the moon in astrology reflects the body. And specifically your internal rhythms, your ebbs and your flows. So as the moon waxes and wanes, your energy levels and needs change in reflection. So mainstream fitness really ignores these fluctuations and demands that you show up the same day after day after day and push. Lunar cycle fitness embraces and works with your inner wisdom and your inner cyclicality.
So again, I'm only taking on five clients. So head to astrologywithclaire. com slash LCF. That's astrologywithclaire. com slash LCF to learn more and to apply to take one of the spots. And, really exciting, I'm also throwing in access to my two premium courses, EXORCISED, that's like an exorcism, yes, EXORCISED, which is all about exorcising mainstream fitness culture from your mind and becoming your own movement authority, and SATED, which is my astrological informed intuitive eating course. So if you want all of that, which is a huge amount of value, head to astrology with Claire dot com slash LCF and apply. I'm really excited to get back into this. I've missed it and I'm going back to my roots y'all.
All right, let's get into today's episode. We're going to start with a little Mercury retrograde rehash. And if you recall, I asked for your Mercury retrograde stories to contribute them for the podcast. And we had one contributor this time. That's okay. We're going to start small and we're going to build our way up. Little community is a little shy, just like me. That's all right. We're mostly a community of introverts and sensitive souls. But we had one brave individual submit a Mercury retrograde story and let's give it a listen right now.
Hi, I'm Elizabeth. I have a Capricorn sun, a Virgo moon, and Scorpio rising. I also have a natal retrograde Mercury in my second house. I tend to work opposite all of those born with a direct Mercury. I've learned that I think clearly when Mercury is retrograde. So I come up with ideas and plans and even implement some of them.
Most of the time I end up reviewing revising and redoing them once Mercury is direct, but there's always some good that comes out of starting. Even if it wasn't the best idea, there was something to work with. Quirky things happen, but there's always something to learn from reviewing, revising, and redoing.
My current story for this Mercury retrograde is that my husband and I are supposed to go to Bermuda on the 17th, but tropical storm Ernesto is making things interesting. Lots of giggles and pivots.
Elizabeth is one of my long term clients and I am always inspired by her perspective. She's always eager to learn the lessons even if it's hard or tricky sometimes. I love this submission because I am married to a retrograde Mercury and I see this reverse reaction to Mercury retrograde firsthand every time the retrograde comes around. So I really think there is something to this experience that Elizabeth has. I am so curious about your Bermuda trip I hope it worked out or that you were able to be flexible with the outcome. So you'll have to let us know
Okay, let's chat about my mercury retrograde for a second. As you know, or maybe you don't if you didn't know, We decided to move during Mercury Retrograde. It just happened to fall during that time. And I was totally expecting some hiccups, but it was kind of comical to watch. So first thing that happened was that our U Haul was stolen. We showed up to the U Haul place with an appointment and a reservation and all of that stuff and they were like, yeah, we don't have your truck. It was stolen. OMG. And we had movers showing up within an hour. So we were scrambling to find a moving truck anywhere. We were lucky enough to find one, but we had to drive like an hour out of town to get the truck and pick it up and an hour back to meet the helpers on time.
And of course, you know, it was sunny and hot and like perfect moving weather all week except when we picked up our truck and it started to rain. It was the downpour. And get this, this is the best part. So, uh, one of our helpers had to bail because, I kid you not, he was so hungover that he was yakking right in my backyard. He was on the side of the truck just throwing up and we were just like, you know what dude, here's a couple bucks, thanks for showing up, uh, goodbye.
So those were some obvious external Mercury retrograde things that unfolded, but Mercury retrograde also really threw me for an internal loop as I mentioned a little bit before. Those squares to Uranus really got me constantly waffling and changing my mind. I don't know if you felt that way as well. And one of the themes that I had brought up in the Mercury retrograde episode was reclarifying and, goodness gracious, did that ever ring true for me.
So remember that most of Mercury retrograde this cycle occurred in the sign of Leo. And Leo is ruled by the sun. And the sun is all about vision and seeing clearly. And Mercury's job is to communicate that vision when it's in Leo. And so this Mercury Retrograde was all about re clarifying vision and seeing things clearly. And goodness gracious, you can tell I'm in the South right now because I keep saying goodness gracious. I live in rural Georgia at the moment. Anyways, goodness gracious, I was so unclear the entire retrograde, and it was all about restating and reclarifying to myself and to other people who I was and what I was willing to do and not do.
So, I'm curious if that was the case for you as well. If you want to submit a Mercury Retrograde story, there's still plenty of time to do that. There's no strict rules here. We would love to hear how Mercury Retrograde unfolded for you.
All right, let's move on to today's main meal, which is all about eclipses, eclipse essentials. So let's start with a few eclipse basics and then we'll get into some strategies and details about the eclipses coming up this month.
Good thing to know. Eclipses occur about every six months and they come in pairs. There's always a solar eclipse and a lunar eclipse. And on social media and you know, mainstream astrology, we hear a lot of things about eclipse season. It's eclipse season, y'all. And the way I define eclipse season is the time between both eclipses, which is about two weeks, but let's be real. It can feel a lot longer than that. So the entire month containing eclipses can feel supercharged and like a lot is happening.
Another thing to know about eclipses is that although there are outliers, most of the time eclipses occur in sign pairs. For example, Aries and Libra, Taurus and Scorpio, Gemini and Sagittarius. That's not the case this time for some technical astrology things that I'm going to just glaze over, but that's usually what happens. And so this also means that eclipses tend to span house pairs. For example, the 1st and the 7th or the 4th and the 10th and the 6th and the 12th.
And so if you want to figure out what an eclipse is going to mean for you, you need to remember that they're happening in specific house pairs and sign pairs. And you need to look at those houses to determine what topics the eclipses are going to dredge up or push out.
And there's one other pair that eclipses make, and this is a lunar node pair. Those are those horseshoe looking things in your birth chart. So I'm skipping over a lot of astronomy here, because that is not my thing. But there's always a north node eclipse and a south node eclipse. The node that the eclipse occurs near can give you a little more information about the the eclipse's action or outcome. So if an eclipse is near the north node, it tends to act as a magnifier, an exaggerator, or a mouth, a hungry mouth where themes related to that zodiac sign or that house in your birth chart are expanded or incoming. North node eclipses can correlate occasionally with something new appearing in your life.
On the other hand, south node eclipses act more like an exit point, or like a light dimmer. They can correlate with releasing something, or letting something go, Or maybe feeling exhausted or drained around a particular theme or experience. And again, that theme or experience is most likely going to be correlated with the house that the eclipse is occurring in for you.
All right, let's talk about the five major ways that I see eclipses manifest in actual astrological practice. So like I said earlier, eclipses get a lot of extra press in pop astrology, but they're really regular expected parts of the astrological calendar.
It's become common to describe eclipses as portals of transformation. As you can tell by my giggle, that's kind of a pet peeve of mine. I think that wording is really vague, and I think it's more helpful to reach for concrete interpretations. Eclipses correlate with, what's a great word for transformation? Change. Things are different. Things were this way and now they're that way. That's how I like to think of eclipses.
All right, that brings me to number one. The first way I see eclipses manifest in practice is as an interruption. That's my preferred way to view them. They're just a little blip on the radar. They're just a little interruption in life as usual. An eclipse is literally an interruption of sunlight or moonlight. So we're going along as usual with the consistent light of the sun and the inconsistent consistent light of the moon and then, boop, the normal pattern is interrupted with darkness. So instead of thinking of eclipses as vague portals to the unknown, I encourage you to play with thinking of them as just sequence interrupters. Life was this way and now it's changed a little bit.
Also, try not to automatically put a negative spin on the word interruption. Yeah, sometimes interruptions are challenging, but pleasant interruptions are equally possible. Interruption is also a great word because it's not transformation, so it doesn't have to correlate with this massive life altering thing.
So most of the time, like I'm just going to break it to you, eclipses do not correlate with massive transformations of life where things are totally and completely unrecognizable, okay? Most of the time, they just herald temporary interruptions, and we respond ideally by being flexible and creative with the new conditions.
The second way that I see eclipses unfold in real practice and real life is that they bring whispers of upcoming change that hasn't fully taken shape yet. So again, this is spinning that classic interpretation of an eclipse as a portal of transformation into something a bit more realistic. Yes, change can occur during eclipse season, but what I've actually seen most often is that we have the idea for change or a presentation of something new and possible coming up during eclipse season, but we don't actually do it or it doesn't actually unfold or occur during that time. Now, of course, there's always exceptions to this, but that's something that I've often seen.
The third way I see eclipses manifest is related to the second, and that is that eclipses bring to fruition the change whispered by the previous eclipse season that occurred six months earlier. And this really is more accurate when the eclipses are occurring in the same signs. They really are echoes of one another, where a change takes root or is planted or seeded. And then as the eclipses occur in those same signs over and over again, over a period of about a year and a half, those changes really become manifest and take root in your life.
The fourth way I see eclipses manifest in real practice is that eclipses are generally just experienced as a more active time. And I mean this as eclipse season, so all of the time between and surrounding the two eclipses. Perhaps life is just simply busier, it might be a little bit more stressful, and things tend to speed up.
And the fifth way I see eclipses manifest is, uh, that they don't. Five is that they pass by unnoticed. Eclipses can totally pass by unnoticed because they're not hitting something pivotal in your birth chart. So it really does matter where the eclipses are in your personal chart in terms of if it's going to be, uh, obvious or not.
And again, the way you figure out what the topics are going to be for you for an eclipse is you find where that eclipse is occurring in your chart and you determine what house it's occurring in and what topics that house is correlated with. And again, I do have a whole episode on the houses. I believe it's episode four. It's called, did you hear about the houses? And so you can pop back there and figure out what these eclipses are going to mean for you using that episode.
Let's move into my favorite eclipse strategies. So I have five of infinite eclipse strategies that I'm going to share with you today. There's definitely way more that we could add. If you have an eclipse strategy that you want to share with the community, go ahead and leave it on astrologywithclaire. com slash gossip, and we'll put it in a future episode. The first eclipse strategy that I like to use, I call small things stability, and this is exactly what it sounds like. It's giving yourself stability in the small things that you can control during a time that often feels unstable and erratic. So control is an illusion, especially during eclipse season, but I find it helpful to give myself regularity in the things that I do have a bit more agency over.
For example, I can give myself food at regular intervals. I can offer myself work breaks at regular intervals and I can simplify things. So I can swap out multi step routines or forms of self care for single step actions that are really easy to repeat and complete. So an example of this might be doing away with a really elaborate morning routine for just a little bit and maybe lighting a candle and taking a few breaths instead. Small things stability has a big effect.
That brings me to strategies number two and three which are flip sides of the same coin and they're called power outage and power surge. So another thing that I think is an illusion Well, most of the time but especially during eclipse season is balance. Balance is a really charged word. I could talk about it for hours, about how it's kind of an unhelpful concept. But, uh, let's just stick with it during eclipse season. So, balance certainly doesn't exist, at least astronomically or astrologically, during eclipse season. Just think about it. Like, The sun disappears, the moon disappears.
That is an extreme experience. Okay. That's not balanced. So the power surge and power outage strategies encourage you to engage with your natural human state of being a little off balance with curiosity and engagement instead of judgment. So, a lot of the suffering that comes with eclipse season, at least in my opinion, is due to us trying to be different than we are, to force ourselves into this elusive, unattainable state of balance during a time that's inherently unbalanced.
All right, let's talk about power outage for a second. So remember an eclipse is literally lights out. So sometimes this means lights out in personal energy. So you can feel tired. You might feel uninspired. You might feel really inward and guess what y'all that's okay.
So what is a power outage strategy? How do you implement it? You just allow yourself to be how you are without conditions or demands. Using this strategy could also mean blocking off your calendar from social engagements or client facing work or simply just putting in more buffers around your appointments or anything else that you experience as a high energy requirement.
But let's flip the coin. At other times, you can experience an eclipse in the opposite way as a power surge. And yes, it is possible to experience both in the same eclipse season. So how do you implement the power surge strategy? Again, you just allow yourself to experience and use any heightened sense of energy or creativity instead of stifling it or dampening it down.
For example, I usually like to stop working at a certain time of day so that I can have a few hours to unwind before bed, but if I'm in an eclipse power surge and I'm feeling inspired to keep creating and I'm in my flow, I'm going to allow myself to ride that wave instead of stifling it down. It's really interesting in modern wellness culture, I'm all for rest, but We hear a lot of do less, do less, do even less, and then even less of less, and I get that. I really do. I think burning yourself out or compulsively achieving to prove your worth are not things that are helpful. And I am a human design projector, by the way, so I really can't overwork myself. It's very bad for my, uh, my internal state, but I'm also not a fan of demonizing joyful productivity.
Making feels really good. So if you have the resources and the energy, I think it's important to allow yourself to do and to make without the guilt tape of, I shouldn't be working so much, playing in the back of your head. So of course I'm glossing over a lot of subtext here. I'm not saying that we should engage in extreme behaviors that really take us into a dysregulated state. I simply am saying we can allow ourselves to be with the energetic experience that we're having during eclipse season, whether it's higher or lower than your average.
The next strategy is called opposite day. We could also call this opposite weeks because eclipse season spans about two to three weeks. And an eclipse, as we've already discussed, is a break in the normal sequence of things. And you can use this to your advantage. So when eclipse season rolls around, using the opposite day strategy or opposite weeks, perhaps you can commit to intentionally inverting your focus for the entire time. Or trying something new and different. Intentionally breaking a pattern or intentionally disrupting a sequence so that something fresh can come in.
And the last strategy is called buzz control. This is exactly what it sounds like as well. Without contradicting myself, yes, I still believe control is an illusion during eclipse season. Eclipse season does not care about your plans, but you can intentionally limit the experiences that create discomfort for you. So remember, eclipses are extremes, and during this time we don't usually need outside help feeling at the edges of our comfort zone. The buzz control strategy means declining invitations for things or from people that leave you feeling uncomfortably buzzy, electric, or depleted.
All right, let's get into these upcoming eclipses. Now all of the strategies and the manifestations that I went through about eclipses can be applied to any eclipse season. So again, listen to this episode again in six months and six months after that, so you can remember how eclipses really unfold and what you can do with them.
Okay, first up, we have our Pisces full moon lunar eclipse, and that's occurring on September 17th, 2024 at the 25th degree of Pisces. And this is our north node eclipse. Remember, eclipses occur near a lunar node or one of those horseshoes, okay? Remember that the north node tends to act as a magnifier or a hungry mouth, where themes related, in this case, to Pisces, or the natal house where Pisces is placed in your chart, are incoming or exaggerated. So, again, North Node Eclipses can sometimes correlate with something new appearing in your life, maybe a new person, a new opportunity, a new direction, or a great yearning and hunger to move forward. I like to think of North Node Eclipses as being future oriented rather than past oriented, which would be more of our South Node Eclipse.
So remember that eclipses are extremes and so this full moon lunar eclipse in Pisces is just like any other full moon in Pisces except it's magnified by a thousand percent and so all of the regular Pisces themes like emotion and imagination and spirituality and compassion are in play. They're just really extra. And the extraness is exaggerated even more by one major aspect of this eclipse makes, and that is a conjunction to Neptune.
So the combination of this eclipse with Neptune and the north node really brings an element of dreaming about the future. You may really notice your imagination running wild, you might have all of these grand ideas, but the only caution with this is that when Neptune is involved, there can be a lack of grounding in reality, sometimes a lack of substance and a lack of form. And this doesn't mean that that form and substance will never come, but it might not be the best time to act out of it right away on the Pisces full moon lunar eclipse.
Neptune also tends to bring a feeling of overwhelm or confusion to this eclipse. Neptune can be like fog or swirling smoke, and it can be really hard to see your hand in front of your face. So my suggestion for this eclipse is to keep things within your control as simple as possible. For example, giving yourself fewer options or fewer choices because decision fatigue is going to be really, really high. Make things very simple for yourself.
There might also be a little bit of trouble discerning between what are your thoughts and feelings and what are another's thoughts and feelings. There's a real boundarylessness to this eclipse. So energetic hygiene is going to be imperative. And one of the tools that I use, it's really simple, that I learned from one of my mentors many years ago, is to erect an energetic container around myself.
It's about three feet out on all sides, above me, below me, left, right, diagonal. It's like an egg. And what I'll do is I will cleanse the inside of that container with one of the elements, fire, air, earth, or water, and allow anything that's not mine to drain out through a drain in the bottom. And then I'll fortify the outside of my then clear container with anything I want that makes it feel strong and impenetrable. So, sometimes I will put steel on the outside, or sometimes I'll put deflecting mirrors on the outside. You can get really creative with it, but that's just a really helpful visualization and energetic tool to make sure that you're in your own energy and not swimming in someone else's.
All right, our second eclipse is the Libra new moon solar eclipse, and this is happening on October 2nd at the 10th degree of Libra. This is our south node eclipse. So this is kind of a dichotomy in a way, because we have a new moon, which begins a new cycle, but it's connected to the south node, which is about the past or about releasing.
So there's this outgoing. Meaning going outwards not outgoing like extroverted. There's this outgoing, exit, releasing, past oriented piece to this eclipse where we're remembering or revisiting something or releasing something so that a new cycle or something fresh can materialize. So it's letting go and clearing space for something new.
So again, the major theme of this eclipse for you is going to be determined fully by the house position of the eclipse. So again, listen to Episode 4, Did You Hear About the Houses?, to determine what those topics are for you. So find Libra in your birth chart and determine what house it's correlated with, and that will tell you the eclipse topics.
But there's a few themes that will be relevant for all of us. So Libra is about connection. It's about compromise. It's about finding something that works for everyone. When it's conjunct the south node, there might be a realization that something isn't working for everyone or something is working for them, but not for you. And so there may need to be a remodeling or a reworking of that thing.
A Libra eclipse near the south node is also a great time to be honest with yourself about what's pushing you off kilter or out of, quote, balance, and to remove or limit that thing so you can make space for something more kind and harmonious in your system.
This Libra eclipse will be conjunct Mercury in Libra. So Libra is already very social, it's a relational sign, it's about connection, but because this eclipse is conjunct Mercury, it doubles that or triples that. It becomes a very talkative, very social moon. It's also very articulate. It wants to collaborate with like minded people. So, I believe this is a really great moon to organize a get together, or a meeting, or an exchanging of ideas.
It's also a great moon to have an important conversation where you want to come across as loving and kind, but also clear and level headed. Lieber is really diplomatic and being conjunct Mercury can really give us the words that we need to speak, but in a way that is fair and just and not off the handle. So I think it's a really good moon for repair, relational repair.
Alright, Astro Lover, thanks for listening. And remember, there are three important ways you can get involved right now. The first is to contribute to the podcast. If you have a Mercury retrograde story, if you have an eclipse story, once those start unfolding, or you have an astrology question, you can head to astrologywithclaire. com slash gossip to leave me a voice message. You can also apply to be one of my Lunar Cycle Fitness personal training clients at astrologywithclaire. com slash LCF. We begin on October 2nd, but don't delay because there's only five spots. And you can learn more about inner orbit and book a session at astrologywithclaire. com slash inner orbit. All right, sending you so much love until next time.
